New In Print: JCW
Be sure to keep an eye out for our new print ad. Appearing in both Interiors, CA Magazine and Luxe Interiors + Design, this piece highlights our experience in custom bedding, upholstery, furniture and drapery construction!
Schumacher Presents: Sophia Velvet.
This velvet plain from Shumacher has an exceptionally soft and silky hand, which is created through a blend of cotton and modal viscose yarns. Its quiet sheen and elegant appearance make it an ideal option where silk velvet is desirable but greater durability is required.
“Ninety shades provide a wide array of classic and fashion-inspired hues, ranging from sophisticated neutrals to eye-catching brights. Suitable for draperies, upholstery and decorative accents, Sophia Velvet adds a subtle hint of glamour to both modern and traditional interiors.”

JCW at Student Career Day!
We are always excited to have students and classes come in from the local design schools to meet us, tour our library and workroom, and learn more about the custom furniture process. We are happy to answer questions- we know that window treatments especially can get tricky with yardage, hardware, and motorization, so we are here to help!
Judy’s Custom Workroom recently participated in ASID Orange
County’s Student Career Day at the
Laguna Design Center. We partnered up
with Kravet to give group presentations
throughout the day, about how to work hand
in hand with a custom workroom. There were about 200 students who from all over OC, so it was great to meet tomorrow’s talent!
Design Students @JCW
Judy’s Custom Workroom recently spent a day with emerging designers!
These UC Riverside Extension students are earning their Certificate in Interior Design. Professor Roberta Maxwell-Long of Maxwell-Long Designs teaches the program’s Perspective Drawing and Marker Rendering Course. She thought it may be helpful for her students to visit a drapery and furniture workroom.
The students came in and enjoyed refreshments while we gave a short presentation on the services we offer and how designers work with us. We went over what the process is like from sketch to completion. Some topics we also covered were drapery, required yardage, installation and pricing of various window treatments and pieces of furniture. We followed up with Q&A and a tour of our showroom/library.
After the students explored our fabric and material library, they then got a tour of our workroom where custom design comes to life. We showed them some examples of our work and all the materials that go into reupholstering a sofa, creating a headboard, pillows, etc. It was beneficial for them to see the quality of our craftsmanship and understand the value of labor cost.
We really enjoyed hosting the class. Most had never been to a workroom before. We hope that they found it informative and had a good time.
Design students are always welcome to stop by and look around our library and workroom. Please know, we are here to help!
JCW Welcomes Design Students!
A big thank you to Orange Coast College interior design students for coming in for our student day this month!
JCW and Professor Sandy Craig organized a day for her students to learn all about how designers work with a workroom. The students are currently enrolled in her Interior Materials and Products-ID150 course. We covered many topics including fabric selection and appropriate use, the variety of manufacturers and mills, yardage, pricing, and production. We went over the design process of custom furniture from concept to completion. Window treatments were also discussed. At the end of our presentation we answered questions and then gave a tour of our resource library and workroom. We hoped to reiterate that questions are always welcome-we are an ASID Industry Partner and here to help our designers!
It was a pleasure to meet everyone. We hope to have more educational events and introduce ourselves to more Southern California design students!
Here are some photos of our event…
