Retreat and Bungalow the New Collection from Barclay Butera.

With temperatures around the country on the wrong side of zero for most of the week, now is the perfect time to begin planning a getaway somewhere warm, even if only in our minds. The latest collections from designer Barclay Butera are here in the nick of time to help make that planning a reality, and to bring a bit of the vacation mentality into any space.

“Although I have had little time for vacations these days, my travel in both world class hotels and simple Americana-type quiet retreats really got the juices flowing,” Barclay said about his inspiration for the collections, “That and fashion; my wardrobe for jaunts to the Hamptons, Miami and Santa Barbara were a great spring board for the color palettes and fabric textures.”

Sounds fabulous, doesn’t it? The collections, called Bungalow and Retreat – both released last month to Kravet showrooms nationwide – capture two sides of the vacation spirit. The fabrics designed for Retreat, including sheers and textures, are all rendered in a washed, easy palette of soft, calm neutrals. This facet of the collection is designed to offer a relaxing and calming escape from the chaos of daily life. Conjuring the electricity and energy of a chic, mod resort, the fabrics in Bungalow feature a whimsical and explosive color palette realized through fearless and fresh designs.

Barclay is best known for creating rooms and homes that are quintessentially all-American with a West Coast twist. “My clients do not own museum-type houses; they live in their homes, so my designs are elegant for sure but comfortable and inviting as well,” Barclay said, “Many clients are now requesting designs for second, third and fourth homes, and they are looking for a more casual, relaxed and fun element in their hideaways. It pushes me and allows for a more casual design sensibility in my projects. As a result, the collections are less formal, less serious, but still right in line with my brand and design sensibility.”

The photos show the two collections, in addition to the display podium in the Kravet showroom at the D&D Building in New York City. The podium conjures a relaxing, rustic and elegant mountain lodge atmosphere, created using a new color for Barclay’s line, the shades of burgundy/ rust seen in the images, as the starting point for the design. In addition to the fabrics, furniture and carpet, all available through Kravet, the display features Barclay’s mirrors for Mirror Image, lighting for Bradburn and accessories for Zodax.
